Writing is an essential skill for success in both school and in life. Teaching your child to write letters is a great way to help them develop this important skill. Here are a few simple tips that you can follow to make letter writing fun for you and your preschooler!
Start with simple shapes such as dots or lines
Write the shapes with your child and let them trace over them. This will help them get used to the feel of a pencil or pen on paper. Use large pieces of paper so your child has plenty of room to write.
Write together!
Model writing for your child and then let them have a turn. Writing together is a great way to bond with your child and help them feel comfortable with writing.
Make it colorful!
Use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to write with. This will make the experience more fun and engaging for your child.
Encourage your child to sound out words as they write
This will help them to develop their spelling and reading skills!
Remember that there is no wrong way to write a letter
As long as their message is clear, perfect punctuation and grammar are not essential.
If you allow your child to find something to love about this activity, it’s much easier to convince them to write their next letter. It might even be a letter to you!
