Summertime Boredom Busters for Preschoolers

boredom busters

Preschoolers are always looking forward to the summer! As parents, the long, warm days are something to look forward to, but the children complaining of boredom are not. When you don’t know what to do with your preschoolers this summer, try some of these fun activities to beat boredom!

Make a Yummy Treat

The extra time we have in the summer is a great opportunity to allow our children to make and do things we wouldn’t normally have time for! As a great boredom buster, help your child learn to make one of their favorite desserts. It could be iced brownies, lollipops, or even ice cream!

Do a Science Experiment

There are lots of easy, at-home science experiments online these days. One of the most popular ones right now is making slime, goo, or flubber! This is always a fun science experiment to do with preschoolers. Your child will love making the slime and even better, playing with the slime will keep them occupied for hours.

Create a Craft

Crafts are always a go-to in our home when someone is bored. The options are really endless when it comes to crafts. One of our favorite crafts for the summer is squirt gun painting. Set up an easel in the yard and fasten watercolor paper to it. If you don’t have an easel, a tree works great too! Then, have your child fill a squirt gun up with liquid watercolors and start painting. When your child is finished, let the paintings dry in the grass before taking inside.

Go on a Summer “Field Trip”

While you can’t do this every time you hear “I’m bored” this summer, going on a “field trip” is always a fun way to spend summer days. There are so many inexpensive field trip options out there. You can visit a local museum, go berry picking at a nearby farm, shop at a Farmer’s Market, swim at the local pool, or go to the movies!

We hope these fun and easy ideas will help you keep your children entertained, active, creative, and happy this summer!
