How to Have More Family Time

How to Have More Family Time

Sometimes it’s hard to balance work, preschool schedules, extracurricular activities, meetings, and whatever else your family calendar has in store. Quality time as a family can easily fall through the cracks, and you may find yourself looking at your schedule wondering when you’ll ever make it work. Here are some ways to spend quality time together as a family with your preschooler.

Learn to Say No

One of the major causes to a jam-packed family schedule is saying yes to everything—from volunteering to bake for the next school function to taking on another extracurricular or even just to agreeing to let the kids eat in front of the TV while you get some extra work done. Learning to say no to things so you can instead focus on family time is one of the hardest but also one of the most rewarding things you can integrate into your daily life.

Prioritize

Sometimes, your list of things to do can feel so overwhelming that you try to do everything at once with no free time to spare on quality time with anyone. Instead, sit down at the beginning of your week and start planning for days or even weeks in advance on when to do things. Use the free time in your upcoming days to go to the park with your children or stay in and watch a movie.

Get Flexible

We all know that plans change—that’s ok! If you have to switch your designated Family Night (always try to have at least one Family Night a week) for Tuesday instead of Friday, that’s ok! As long as it’s still happening, that’s all that matters. And sometimes, if you do end up having to sacrifice family time, that’s ok too. Make it up to your family by making the next Family Time special by spending an extra hour together or treating everyone to ice cream.

Family time is something we all want more of, and the key is finding what works for you and your family. As long as you’re spending time together and enjoying each others’ presence, it doesn’t matter what you do!
