Trick-or-treating on Halloween is an exciting activity for your preschool pumpkins! This Halloween, make sure to take certain precautions to ensure their safety and fun. Follow these safety tips with your preschoolers for a night of fun and fright!
Trick-or-treat in groups and with adults! Trick-or-treating is fun when your preschooler can travel from house to house with neighborhood and school friends. Make sure there are plenty of adults to keep children corralled and together.
Take photos of your preschoolers dressed in their costumes so you know what each child is wearing and remember to count your group often to make sure everyone stays together.
Give your preschoolers glow sticks and flashlights to carry with them. Your preschooler will love getting to be out at night, in the dark. Especially if they have a dark costume, let them take along glow sticks to wear as bracelets or flashlights to light their way so that drivers can easily spot your masked, super heroes.
Always walk on sidewalks and cross at the crosswalk. Do not let your preschoolers cross in the middle of the street where cars may not be able to quickly spot them. Extra adults can help keep children on the sidewalk and with the group.
Check candy and toys for safety hazards: unwrapped candy, hard candy, and choking hazards. Make sure to remove items that may cause problems for your preschooler. Be extra cautious with homemade treats. Only accept homemade treats from neighbors you know.
Go over the rules with your preschoolers. Remind them to stay together, never to cross in the middle of the street, and to be respectful to neighbors and other trick-or-treaters. With these tips, everyone is guaranteed to have a safe, fun Halloween night!
