We can all certainly debate the use of screen time preschoolers should get at home. No screen time! Twenty minutes a day! TV is ok, but no handheld tablets! But sometimes, you just need something to keep your child occupied while you finish up a task, even when used sparingly. Here are some toys and apps you can feel confident about letting your child use:
The Fisher-Price Fun 2 Learn Smart Tablet: This compact tablet is easy to throw into a backpack to take on long car trips. Your child will practice letters and their sounds, along with numbers and typing. I love that the tablet has the standard QWERTY keyboard, which will help your preschooler transfer to using a computer or laptop one day!
ABC Kids app (available on iTunes or Google Play) is a simple app your preschooler can use to trace letters. This free app also teaches your child phonics and shapes. The characters in this app are cute, entertaining and quiet! This app does not need sound to be successful (unless your preschooler is working on phonics).
ABCmouse is a subscription-based, online resource your preschooler can use to practice letters, phonics, reading, counting, colors, and science! Your child can use this at home on your computer, or on the go from a tablet.
Baby First TV is another fantastic choice for your preschooler. All of Baby First’s shows and apps are educational in nature and help your child learn colors, shapes, animals, and numbers.
