Creative Lunch Ideas for Preschoolers

Creative Lunches at Kids 'R' Kids Kings River, preschool, daycare, learning academy, childcare

As you go through your usual morning routine of brushing teeth and pulling clothes over your preschooler’s head, you realize you have forgotten to pack their lunch for the afternoon to come! Since the many options floating around daycare lunches can be quite overwhelming, here are some easy lunch ideas that are both healthy and fun for your growing preschooler.

 Bento Box

These containers are perfect for mornings where time seems to have run away from you. Simply choose any Tupperware-like container with divided compartments, place your preschooler’s favorite main and side dish in their designated areas, and easily portion a solid lunch for the afternoon. Anything from a ham and cheese sandwich with assorted berries and pretzels serve as a healthy choice to keep them satisfied!

 Silly Shapes

This next idea will definitely keep your child’s lunch full of joy and anticipation! After you have caringly crafted the side dishes in the bento box, make their lunch exciting by creating silly shapes! Start by using cookie-cutters to craft their sandwich into different outlines or form the dish free handedly to whatever comes into your mind. Truly, your creativity and imagination are the only limit to these designs, whether they be molds of stars and clouds or sculpted butterflies and hearts.

 Fun Finger Foods

Since your preschooler will enjoy their lunch at daycare, certain finger foods will help keep their lunchtime hassle free. A chocolate peanut butter granola bar or a few cubes of sweet potato could add a little sweetness to your child’s lunch. To make those healthier options a little more enjoyable, draw a smiley face on a cutie orange. Create a caterpillar out of winding sliced cucumbers around a circle watermelon head with cucumber circles for the eyes and mouth to finish it off. These finger foods still keep lunch fun while being easy for your preschooler to eat.

 Thrilling Themes

Now that you have a few shapes and foods floating within your thoughts, take their meal up a notch by creating a theme throughout the dish. While this suggestion may seem daunting at first, just think of their favorite characters and get to shaping! Go for a Star Wars theme with a sandwich in the shape of Darth Vader’s helmet and celery sticks thinned into lightsabers. Create a Disney Princess theme by shaping the sandwich into a glass slipper and create a wand by lining up their favorite berries to a watermelon star center. Bring their favorite characters to life by experimenting with different shapes and forms throughout the meal.

With your preschooler’s fun lunch in hand, you will finally feel free and prepared as you drop them off at the daycare doors, knowing their lunch will be healthy and full of joy!
