The first day jitters can come to anyone heading back to school, but especially to a little one heading off to preschool for the first time. To make the transition to school an easier one, try one of the tips below!
Start working with your child on what they will be learning in preschool. If they can already recognize some numbers, colors, and other basic concepts, they will feel more at ease when school begins. You don’t want them to be bored in school, but it will help if they’ve already been exposed to some of the things they will be working on.
Spend time around other children. If you know some families that will also be sending their little one off to preschool this fall, try and set up playdates with them during the summer to help your children get to know each other. This way, when preschool starts, your little one will already have a friend!
Get your child on their school schedule. It’s important that your child has a nighttime and morning routine in place, but it’s also important that you start to get them on the schedule that their preschool runs on. Find out from the school what time your child will be eating lunch and napping, and work on mirroring that schedule in your home the last few weeks of summer.
Heading off to school doesn’t have to be scary, it can be fun and exciting! By preparing a little beforehand, this first year of school can be a blast.
