Summertime and a long, three-month break from preschool is exciting to everyone. Caregivers and parents will probably have lots of grand ideas to keep everyone entertained and having a great time and getting along. That’s a lovely thought, but at least once you’ll hear those two words: “I’m BORED!”
Have no fear, we have some great ideas for you for kids of all ages:
Water.
Fill a small plastic pool (only $5 at most big box stores) with water in a shady area. Just add toys or plastic cups and bowls and let the kids splash and play. Running through a sprinkler is a classic outdoor summer activity, or just put a spray nozzle on the end and let them spray anything or anyone they want! Water play on a hot day is instant summer fun.
Explore your community!
Pack up the kids in the car early and explore a nearby Farmer’s Market. Check online for all the parks and playgrounds in your city and make a plan to visit a different playground each week. Take a picnic and blanket and stay even longer!
Go to the library.
Libraries these days have extensive children’s’ sections. Alongside book displays you may also find hand puppets and puppet theatres, computers and tablets with educational software, and story times and special events! There will probably be at least one fun activity that repeats every week.
Stay indoors.
If it’s too hot out, make it a board game day! Check the movie theatre’s matinee options. Build a fort! These are activities that can be decided upon in an instant for that rare summer shower.
Make it educational.
Search Pinterest for science, art, and phonics based crafts and activities using items you already have in your home!
