Keeping Your Preschooler Cool This Summer

keeping cool

The warmer weather in the summer makes it one of the most fun times of year for preschoolers. Sometimes it is just too hot though, and we have to be careful and get creative to beat the heat! Check out some of our favorite tips to keep your preschooler cool this summer.

Stay Safe

Try to avoid being outside during the hottest parts of the day, about 10am – 4pm. If you are outside with your child during this time, wear sunscreen and reapply often, bring a hat, drink lots of water, and spend a few minutes in the shade every hour.

Prepare Cool Snacks

Keeping snacks in stock is a must in the summer, especially cold ones! One of the best summer snacks is definitely popsicles, whether homemade with fresh fruit or store bought. A healthier alternative to popsicles is frozen fruit! Frozen grapes, bananas, and watermelon are delicious and just as sweet as any popsicle.

Incorporate Water

Whether you go to the pool or play in the sprinklers, incorporating water into your activities can help keep your child cool this summer. Some of our favorite water activities are visiting the local splash pad, setting up a slip-n-slide in the backyard, and having a water balloon fight!

Consider Staying Indoors

When the temperatures get really high, it’s sometimes smarter and safer to stay inside. Instead of only watching television or playing on the iPad, gather some other activities for your children to do like making crafts, playing board games, or dressing up!

While our children enjoy summer and all its activities, keep these tips in mind to help keep your children cool and beat the heat when temperatures rise!
