How to Teach Preschool Children about Music

How to Teach Preschool Children about Music at Kids 'R' Kids Highland Glen, preschool, daycare, childcare

It’s important for your preschooler to embrace the benefits of music for several reasons. Music positively affects cognitive development, can be therapeutic and soothing, and just brings people joy in general. There are numerous ways to incorporate music into your little one’s daily life. Check them out below!

Start with the preschool classics.

Start by sharing classic songs with your child that are easy to sing along to and have repetitive lyrics and melodies. Some great examples are “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” “The Wheels on the Bus,” and “Rain, Rain, Go Away.” Soon enough, your tot will have these melodies memorized and you’ll be hearing them all day long.

Sing along to the radio.

Singing along to the radio is a great way to pass the time and bond with your youngster while on the road. Create a long playlist of your child’s favorite songs, crank up the volume, and hit the road!

Create an “active” playlist.

Music is also a wonderful way to keep your child active. Songs like “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” will get your little one moving, but nothing is as fun as freeform dancing to fun upbeat music. Check out this playlist of energetic, kid-friendly songs.

Dance with your preschooler!

Dancing to your favorite songs and playing different instruments are fantastic ways to embrace the joy that music can bring. However, nothing is as engaging and exciting as live music. Hold a mini jam session in your home for an exhilarating in-person musical experience.
