Ways to Say “I Love You”

Ways to Say “I Love You”

Parents say “I love you” a hundred times a day in a hundred different ways! What are some of the ways you show love to your child? Here are a few ideas that your relationship with your child might reflect— but don’t forget you can never say “I love you” out loud too often!

Packing lunches. The preparation and care that goes into planning, shopping for, and packing a lunch is one way you may say “I love you” to your child. Every meal can be a reminder you’re sharing love with your child by taking the time and effort and love to care for them.

Reading stories together. Reading books together not only sets your child up for success in later life, it allows you to have time to bond. The last time you sat down and read with your child, you said “I love you” in a lasting and engaging way.

Singing songs. Children love to sing, and singing along is another way parents say “I love you”! Many parents have even taught their children songs, whether it is “happy birthday”, “jingle bells”, or “row row row your boat”, a song is a perfect chance to share love.

Asking about feelings. Sharing feelings with your child can be anything from asking them what they are feeling, sharing how to get through it, and letting them know you get big feelings too! Emotions are the glue to our families, and showing how to manage them is a great way to say “I love you”.

Making them laugh. What was the last thing your child laughed at? It’s amazing to see babies giggle at “peek-a-boo” and older kids laugh at loud at silly sounds! Laughter is not only the best medicine—it’s another way you say “I love you”!

Sharing smiles, laughter, and stories are the memories that last, and they’ll continue to allow children and adults to share feelings of love as long as humans are around on planet earth. These things are what make us human, and we’re proud of you for every little way you share love with those around you—thank you for being you and contributing to the smile of your little one!
