National Picnic Month

National Picnic Month

July is National Picnic month! Use this month to spend more time outdoors with your preschoolers and family. Plan a special picnic outing and let your child help in the preparations! Remember: safety first! Use coolers for any perishable items, or plan to pack non-perishable items for your meal. Here are five places to plan a special picnic this summer:

1. A new park

Have you been dying to take your preschoolers to the new park in town? Take time this summer to make a special visit to your park. Pack a nutritious lunch and spend the day with your child at the park!

2. Near the airport runway

Find a place near the airport, that isn’t so loud, to watch the airplanes take off and land! Pack a lunch and spend the day watching the airplanes. Step up the theme with peanuts and pretzels for snacks and watch Planes when you get home!

3. An outdoor concert

Take your preschoolers along for a picnic at an outdoor concert this summer! Chances are, there will be many other children running around, too! Your preschooler will enjoy the music and the opportunity to enjoy a meal outside!

4. At the farm

Are you planning a visit to a local farm or pick-your-own farm this summer? Extend the experience and pack up a picnic to enjoy with your preschoolers. Spend more time on the farm with your picnic lunch and talk to your child about where our food comes from!

5. At the zoo

Don’t spend an arm-and-a-leg during your visit to the zoo this summer! Get your preschoolers in on the fun of planning your trip to the zoo by letting them help pack your picnic lunch. Select recipes that they can help make: egg salad sandwiches, fruit salad, snack bags with cheese and crackers; and enjoy your visit to the zoo!

Make it a part of your summer bucket list to spend time on a picnic with your preschoolers! They’ll learn to enjoy the outdoors and will find inspiration from your picnic together!
