Children’s Books for Independence Day

Children’s Books for Independence Day at Kids 'R' Kids Fort Mill, preschool, daycare, childcare

On the Fourth of July all over the United States, people put on their red, white, and blue and head to parades, host barbecues, go to the beach, or watch firework shows. Does your preschooler know why we celebrate this day? Here are a few books to read with your child and learn about Independence Day and many American traditions.

Hello, Fourth of July  by Martha Day Zschock

In this book, a parent and a child eagle participate in many typical Fourth of July events. The book also introduces preschoolers to several national symbols and events from the United States’ past. Your preschooler is sure to enjoy the rhyme and rhythm of the book as well as the colorful illustrations.

Apple Pie Fourth of July  by Janet S. Wong and Margaret Chodos-Irvine

Have you ever heard the phrase, “American as apple pie?” Not everyone that lives in America understands Fourth of July celebrations. A young Chinese girl feels as if her parents have it all wrong, but she ends up learning a lesson…and eating some apple pie.

Fourth of July Mice  by Bethany Roberts

Three cheers for the Red, White, and Blue! Four mice set out on a fun-filled, action-packed day which includes a parade, a baseball game, a sack race, a swim in the stream, and more! These mice love America, and it shows in this easy-to-read story.

Daniel’s First Fireworks  (Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood) by Becky Friedman and Jason Fruchter

Sometimes new things are scary! Daniel and his family are planning to take a picnic to the beach where they will watch a firework show. Daniel’s sister Margaret is afraid of the firefly bugs, and Daniel becomes afraid of the loud boom of the fireworks. This story about first experiences can help your preschooler if they are afraid of fireworks or other new experiences.

No matter how you celebrate this Fourth of July, have a safe and fun time!
