Winter Activity Ideas for Preschoolers

Winter Activity Ideas for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Keller, preschool, daycare, learning academy, childcare

Some winter days, it’s just too cold to go outside. It’s easy to run out of things to do when you have to stay inside all day, so here are some things to try when you run out of other options.

Movies are always a big hit! Try shorter films since attention spans are shorter in those younger ages. Learning movies are even better! You can try videos that teach sign language, or maybe music videos and they can learn to sing and dance to music.

Reading books together is a great way to bond and to help them with their language comprehension. Reading is a peaceful way to spend those cold winter days, and you can add in some hot-chocolate and blankets for even more fun!

Draw a picture of the whole family. It will be a fun way for them to show you what they know about your family, and it’s a great way to spend time with them. Don’t forget to show off their art-work to everyone depicted. Provide plenty of crayons and paper so that their artwork will be perfect.

Make the hallway into a laser beam maze with streamers! If they have a lot of energy that needs to be used up, you could tape streamers to the walls in a hallway to create a maze-like scene. Just hang the streamers down low from wall to wall, and crisscross them here and there. Let them crawl through and see if they can make it down the whole hallway without pulling any down.

If you use all of these and they’re still bored, you could always bundle them up really tightly and send them out to play for a few minutes. Have them run some laps or walk the dog with you. A few minutes in the cold can be a nice break from the indoors, and maybe make your little one appreciate that warm house a bit more.
