Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities

While we give thanks for our families, homes, jobs, opportunities, and the things that we have, it is important to remember that some people haven’t been as lucky. Here are a few of the many opportunities to volunteer in your community and help others around you! Help to brighten the holiday for those that need it.

Serve the Need in Johnston County

A Serve the Need in Johnston County partnership with local churches, civic clubs, veterans organizations, and businesses – working together with a common mission and shared core values.

Their mission is to host a sit-down Thanksgiving Meal. To honor, bless, encourage, warmly entertain and build relationships with all. To mobilize residents of our community to provide, prepare, serve, and  host this even

Raleigh Rescue Mission

Gobbles to Go Meal Packing – Thanksgiving Day

Join them in portioning ham, turkey, and sides into “to-go” containers and packaging them for our Gobbles to Go delivery drivers to pick up. Raleigh Rescue Mission’s Gobbles to Go Outreach program delivers hot meals to Meals on Wheels participants.

Smithfield Rescue Mission

From now until November 20, the mission will be collecting frozen turkeys, and all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. We’ll distribute these to families in need, so they can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with their family, in their own home. We’ll also prepare a Thanksgiving meal at the mission, for our residents and people in the community.

You can also donate $25, and we’ll do the food shopping for you! To give online, visit or mail your donation to PO Box 681, Smithfield, NC 27577.

You can drop off donations at our office until Wednesday, November 20, at 523 Glenn St., Smithfield.

Salvation Army

Thanksgiving Grocery Baskets: Their food pantry distributes Thanksgiving baskets each holiday so families can enjoy a wonderful home-cooked meal for this holiday. Please consider providing items for Wake County families in need.
