What Will Your Child Learn in Preschool?

Watching your pre-k age child grow and develop is exciting and fulfilling; it is a time of development for social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills. And with this growth, there is also a responsibility for parents who want to keep their child stimulated and engaged.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Circa / FishHawk understands this challenge and have structured our learning program to ensure that children achieve important learning milestones including letters and sounds, colors, shapes, and objects, cutting and drawing and socializing and sharing.

Letters and Sounds

A pre-k lesson plan will include teaching about the alphabet where children will learn to recognize and name the letters. They will learn to recognize their own first name, and there will be a focus on learning to print out their name along with common, simple words like ‘mom’ and ‘dad’.

There will also be time for reading in the daily schedule which further exposes the children to new words and sounds and help them connect what they’ve learned with a love for reading.

Colors, Shapes, and Objects

An educational preschool will continue to teach pre-schoolers about the names of all the colors as well as basic principles such as primary and secondary colors. They will also learn about shapes, including some of the more advanced shapes such as hexagons and octagons.

The focus on objects helps children to name objects in their daily lives such as what clothes they wear, the names of various body parts and the ability to label objects in their environment.

All this learning will be reinforced during ‘play’ activities where children will be encouraged to name body parts, items of clothing, and identify colors and shapes in books.

Numbers and Counting

Preschoolers learn what each of the numerals from zero to nine look like and how to name them correctly. They also learn how to count ten or more objects. This process begins with memorization where the order of numbers is memorized and then, as children advance, they learn that the numbers correspond with objects.

There are many opportunities to continue the learning about numbers, and in playtime children will be encouraged to count their steps, crayons or blocks on the floor.

Cutting and Drawing

An educational preschool will ensure that children are able to cut with scissors before they go to kindergarten. Drawing and cutting will progress quickly as children develop fine motors skills and better hand-eye coordination. As they improve they will learn to use glue, paintbrushes, and pencils and their drawings will improve beyond scribbles.

Sharing and Socializing

Pre-k schools should always be encouraging the development of important social skills as these are necessary for children to progress successfully to kindergarten. At a preschool learning center, they will learn to communicate their wants and needs, including how to ask for help. They will also learn how to share, work together and take turns. As they progress, they will also learn how to participate in group activities and follow simple directions.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Circa / FishHawk we pride ourselves on creating an environment that is conducive to learning, where children are exposed to exciting new concepts and encouraged to progress at their own pace.

We offer child care and early education for children from the age of 6 weeks to 4 years. For older children (aged 5 to 12 years) we offer before and after-school programs. Our learning academy provides a safe, nurturing environment for children to develop and flourish as they develop the building blocks of life.
