Spring has sprung and it is time for a little freshening up in your preschooler’s room. Keeping things organized in a way that suits you and your toddler may seem daunting at times. Here are some tips to consider.
Keep it simple.
It is not so much about what system you use to organize your preschooler’s bedroom as it is how easy it is to maintain. There should be a specified area for toys, clean clothes, dirty clothes, shoes, etc. Make sure your toddler knows where things should go and then follow up daily to make sure things are being put where they belong.
Keep things in reach.
If one of your goals is for your preschooler to be able to maintain a tidy room, make sure things are being stored or put away within their reach. Otherwise, you will be doing a lot of the cleaning up yourself. Toddlers love to help and take ownership of things. Being in charge of cleaning their own room is a great stepping stone to more responsibility in the future.
Keep only what is important.
It is logical that the more things you have, the more things you will have to clean up. In a preschooler’s world that means more toys lying around and more clothes on the floor. By using the “less is more” strategy and removing all broken, outgrown, unused toys and any clothing that no longer fits, there will be much less to keep organized and it will be easier for your child to help keep things looking spiffy.
It may take a few hours or even a few days to get your preschooler’s room into the organized condition that you desire. However, you and your preschooler will both feel much better overall when you find a system that works for you! Happy cleaning!
