Chances are, your preschool children made great friends over the last school year. It can be a difficult transition for your child to go from seeing their friends every day, to not seeing them at all. Help make this transition to summer easier with these tips and activities to keep them in touch:
Update Their Contact Information
Before school gets out, make sure you have the best contact information for your child’s friends’ families. This way it will be easier to schedule activities with their friends.
Weekend Play Dates
Offer to host a weekend playdate with some of the other families in your child’s class. Rotate hosting so other parents can take care of errands and activities and your child can play with their school friends. Plan for snacks and other fun activities like a splash day or game night to keep everyone occupied!
Send Invites to Special Events
Invite your child’s friends for special events like watching the fireworks for 4th of July or neighborhood bike parades. Let your child invite a friend to the ballpark with your family. They’ll make special memories with their friends over the summer!

Good Old-Fashioned Phone Call
Let your child continue to develop their social skills by planning phone calls with their friends over the summer. They will enjoy the special time to get to talk with their friends and they will learn how to have a phone conversation, a skill being quickly replaced by 24/7 texting. Help them by practicing making the call to their friend and even practice letting them answer the phone. Your child will enjoy getting to talk to their friends over the summer!
