Young children who are at childcare all day are sometimes overwhelmed with a typical learning regimen. Using play-based learning allows the child to play incorporated with learning established by the teacher. There are many benefits to play-based learning! Children taking ownership of their learning gives them a feeling of independence which is quite beneficial as they grow. This teaches them and helps acclimate them to a more vigorous learning environment in the future. Let us discuss some of the benefits that we have seen.

Incorporating themed activities throughout the year stirs up excitement and eager participation in children. Creating an environment based on Easter at this time of the year encourages that extra bit of learning excitement!

Benefits of Play-Based Learning

  • Supports creativity: Let children draw, use scissors, and glue. This taps into their sensory skills as well.
  • Social skill development: Giving your child free-time with other children their age provides them the skills to negotiate, problem-solve, and work together.
  • Supports communication skills and language: A great opportunity for children to discuss, plan, and story-tell with peers. This development skill early on is critical for future communication.
  • Develop a love for learning: Having fun while learning teaches that learning can be fun. The development of a love for learning segues into a constructive approach to learning in the future.
  • Encourages an asking/learning environment: Our kids are already naturally curious. Play-based learning allows them to continue with the curiosity of others and the world.
  • Contributes to student development: Studies have shown that cognitive, academic, and social-emotional skills are activated when children are involved with play-based learning. Learning from play is the most effective way to develop fine motor skills and gross motor skills in young children.
