Proper Nutrition is Linked to Preschool Success at Kids 'R' Kids of Waterford Lakes, Preschool. Childcare, daycareDo you ever look at your preschooler and think they grew overnight?

That is probably because young children grow at an incredible pace. Ninety percent of brain growth occurs before kindergarten, and a healthy diet can help promote healthy brain growth in your preschooler!

Attention

We have all skipped breakfast or opted for a sugary latte instead before a meeting or morning class and regretted it, right? Hunger can be a huge distraction and cause your preschooler to not want to participate, be unable to focus, or be irritable. Similarly, a breakfast containing too much sugar can leave your preschooler jitty or cause him to have too much energy, leading him to not make the best choices. Ensuring your preschooler has a well-balanced breakfast and is hydrated can help set his day off in the right direction and help him be more successful.

Brain Food

Nutrient-dense foods (i.e., fish, oats, leafy greens, eggs) give your preschooler’s brain the needed nutrients to develop properly. Your preschooler’s brain is constantly developing and needs lots of nutrients to develop properly.

Sugary Foods

Sugary or high-fat foods can leave your preschooler feeling sluggish and make it more difficult for him to participate in activities needed for learning. If your preschooler fills up on sugary or high-fat foods, he may not leave room for the nutrient-dense foods his brain and body need for proper development. Treat your preschooler with a delicious fruit salad or 100% fruit popsicles instead of candy.

Immune System

Not only does a proper diet help your preschooler’s brain and body develop properly and help her be more attentive in preschool, but it can help her ward off illness. Your preschooler will have a better chance of staying healthy and fighting off all the germs she’s exposed to if her body is at its optimum through a healthy diet. Foods high in vitamin C (i.e., citrus fruits) are great for a boost in immunity!
