Summer is a fantastic time for your preschooler to try some new activities or visit new locations. New experiences help build schemas to be built on with future learning. Below are some summer bucket list ideas, since your preschooler is likely unable to make their own bucket list.
Parks
Most children love going to the park and chances are there are a few unexplored parks in your area. With a little research, you can make a quick list of different parks in the area and try a new one each week. You may find a new favorite play spot! To add to the excitement, pack a picnic to enjoy in the shade or invite a friend along!
Car Wash
As adults, we likely groan at the thought of washing the car. However, this activity can be a great learning experience and loads of fun for your preschooler. The end result doesn’t need to be a perfectly washed car for your child to have fun and have a sense of pride when finished!
Berry Picking
Unless your preschooler has a food allergy, berry picking is sure to be a hit! Find a nearby berry farm, grab a basket or two, and head out for a day filled with berry picking! Make some yummy treats when you return home. A few ideas are to blend the berries and freeze into popsicles, make berry shortcakes, bake a pie, or just enjoy them as nature intended!
Movie Day
On those icky weather days, host a pajama movie day. This can include just your family or invite a few friends over. Spend the day in your pajamas watching your preschooler’s favorite movies or introduce him to your childhood favorites!
Fun in the Kitchen
Spend some time in the kitchen making homemade ice cream in a bag or in an ice cream maker. Plain vanilla ice cream only takes a few ingredients! Alternatively, whip up some popsicles to enjoy after a hot day in the sun!
Hopefully, you and your preschooler will find some new experiences this summer to bond over and create lifelong memories!
