10 Outdoor Games to Get Your Preschooler Excited About Nature

10 Outdoor Games to Get Your Preschooler Excited About Nature at Kids 'R' Kids of Stafford, daycare, childcare, children

Outside is a very good place to be when you’re a preschooler! There’s plenty of room to run, and no “inside voice” is required. But there are plenty more things for children to appreciate about nature. Below are ten outdoor games to get your child excited about nature and help them burn off some energy:

“I Spy”

This classic game can be played anywhere and is a great way to get your child to notice their surroundings.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Make a list of things for your child to find on a nature walk or in your backyard. Include things like leaves, acorns, sticks, and flowers.

Stone Skipping

Have your child try to skip stones across a pond or lake. They’ll be amazed at how far they can make them go!

Leaf Rubbings

Place a leaf underneath a piece of paper and help your child rub a crayon over the top. The leaf’s veins will show up on the paper and make a cool design.

Cloud Watching

Lie down on a blanket together and see how many different shapes you can find in the clouds. This is a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Birdwatching

See how many different types of birds you can spot in your yard or at a nearby park. Binoculars can help your child see them better.

Nature Journal

Have your child draw or write about the things they see when they’re outside. This is a great way to document their outdoor adventures.

Stargazing

On a clear night, go outside and see how many stars you can find. Look for constellations and talk about what you see with your child.

Hiking

Explore a nearby nature trail with your child. This is a great way to get some exercise and see some beautiful scenery.

Gardening

Plant flowers or vegetables with your child. They’ll love getting their hands dirty and seeing the plants grow.

There are many ways to get your preschooler excited about nature! By playing outdoor games with them, you can help them burn some of their boundless energy while teaching them to appreciate the world around them.
