Hot Days, Cool Treats for Preschoolers

Hot Days, Cool Treats for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Stafford, preschool, daycare, childcare

Summer is here! The days will be hot, and preschoolers will need ways to keep cool. For those hot days, how about a refreshing treat? These treats can range from simple to more complicated, but they all are sure to put a smile on your preschooler’s face and keep her refreshed.

A quick trip to the grocery store can yield some easy treats. The freezer section holds a variety of ice cream flavors, popsicles, and other premade selections. Fresh fruits and veggies can also be purchased and eaten alongside hummus, ranch dressing, or other dips.

For treats that require a little more work, there are still plenty of fun choices! Slushies, frozen grapes, chocolate milk, smoothies, and sliced watermelon are always hits. There are many options on how to arrange fruits and vegetables to make different creatures.

Other treats may require either more work or time. These treats all require freezing.  Frozen fruit in water or flavored soda water, homemade ice cream sandwiches, chocolate covered bananas, melon or berry kebabs, yogurt bites, and frozen hot chocolate are some cool treats that will require freezing ahead of time.  Watermelon pops can be made by cutting watermelon into triangles, adding a popsicle stick through the rind, and chilling.

Not all treats will require freezing, but there are some that need refrigeration.  Your preschooler may enjoy Jell-O Jigglers, yogurt parfaits, cucumbers topped with tuna or chicken salad, or even kabobs with strawberries and cheese. Strawberry pops are made by removing the stem, making an X on the tip of the strawberry, carefully opening the tip to fill with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs. These may become a summer favorite! Perhaps your preschooler would enjoy a plate of apple nachos! These nachos are apple slices that have peanut butter or chocolate drizzled on top. Yum!

It is important to ensure that your preschooler does not become too hot while playing outside. Remember to drink plenty of fluids and take frequent breaks. Whether you grab premade treats from the store or make your own, your preschooler is sure to love different ways to stay cool this summer.
