Indoor Preschool Activities When It’s Too Hot Outside

indoor activities

While summer is known for long hours playing outside, sometimes it is just too hot for our preschoolers! Of course, it might be easiest to turn on a TV show or movie, but with a little planning you can have some fun, engaging, and technology-free activities for your child! Here are some of our favorites ideas:

Play an indoor game

Staying indoors doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! We love playing games outside, and they are still fun inside. Hide and Go Seek is a classic, but your child will also love more unique games like scavenger hunts, fort building, and cleaning competitions.

Make a fun snack

Offer your child some different snack options and let them join you in the kitchen to help make it! Make lemonade from scratch or whip up a batch of cookies. Another fun summer treat is making popsicles from yogurt and fruit! One of our favorite summer snacks is ice cream, and it’s easy to make with ice cream salt and milk!

Bring out the board games

Technology has taken over and many families never touch their board games anymore! Pull those board games out and join your kids in playing some of your childhood favorites like Candyland, Hi Ho Cherry-O, Chutes and Ladders, or Go Fish!

Do a science experiment

Just because school is out for summer, doesn’t mean learning has to stop! A quick Internet search will present tons of easy science experiments for preschoolers. Most of them can be done with things that can be picked up at the grocery store or might even be lying around your house!

These fun activities will keep your child happy even if they have to stay inside because of the heat! They will love learning and playing, but most of all, will love getting to spend time with you!

When the heat lets up, why not teach your preschooler to ride a bike?
