5 Nature Facts to Teach Your Preschooler

5 Nature Facts to Teach Your Preschooler at Kids 'R' Kids of Oakbrook, childcare, daycare, children

Nature is around us, whether we take the time to notice it or not, so we might as well appreciate it and take advantage of all the wonderfulness it has to offer! There are so many ways to celebrate the beauty of nature with your child, but the easiest is to educate them about how the world changes. Below are five fun nature facts to teach your preschooler:

How Do Mountains Form?

Mountains are formed over time as the earth’s plates move and push up against each other. The pressure from the plates causes the rocks to break and form mountains.

How Do Animals Adapt to Their Environments?

Animals adapt to their environments in different ways. Some animals can change their fur to match the colors of their surroundings, while others can change their diets to eat what is most commonly available around them.

How Do Rivers Change Over Time?

Rivers change over time because the water in them is constantly moving. The water can wear away at the rocks and dirt along the riverbed, making the river deeper and wider over time.

How Do Plants Grow?

Plants grow from tiny seedlings into big plants by absorbing sunlight and water from the ground. The sunlight helps the plant to produce food for itself, and the water helps it to stay hydrated.

How Does the Weather Affect the Environment?

The weather can have a big impact on the environment. For example, if it rains a lot, the ground can become saturated and cause flooding. If there’s a dry season, the ground can lose water and crack apart.

Animals and plants play an intricate role in maintaining balance in the natural world. Just as humans have impacted the environment through their actions, so too does the environment respond to the activities of animals and plants. A greater understanding of how the natural world works can help humans to be more respectful and considerate of the delicate balance that exists.
