Fun Ways to Repurpose Pumpkin Insides with Your Preschooler

Fun Ways to Repurpose Pumpkin Insides with Your Preschooler at Kids 'R' Kids Oakbrook, preschool, daycare, childcare

It is too bad that pumpkins do not last forever! Your preschooler may be making great memories with your family’s Halloween pumpkin. Though all good things must come to an end, there are still ways to enjoy your pumpkin’s “insides” just a little bit longer!

Below are four fun ways to repurpose your pumpkin’s insides with your preschooler.

Read Pumpkin-Themed Books Together Before Carving a Pumpkin

Katie McKy has a fun book called, “Pumpkin Town (or Nothing is Better or Worse than Pumpkins).” Your preschooler will enjoy seeing what a simple pumpkin seed can do.

Play With the Pumpkin Seeds!

After reading a fun book together, your family can carve your own pumpkin. Be sure to save the pumpkin’s insides for play time, though.

Whether your preschooler wants to wash the pumpkin seeds or not, have someone wash the seeds and save for an easy sensory bin. Add the washed seeds to any water bin, and let your preschooler play with the seeds. Better yet, throw in some random kitchen supplies so that your preschooler can scoop, measure, etc.

Bake, Bake, Bake With Your Preschooler!

The pumpkin seeds are quite nutritious; so take advantage of using them in different recipes. You and your preschooler can spend an afternoon baking these recipes together.

The website, Eating Well, has a cinnamon and sugar pumpkins seed recipe.

You can also use the pumpkin’s insides to make unique pumpkin bread. The website, Eating Richly, has a tasty recipe called, “Diana’s Famous Pumpkin Gut Bread.” (You may have to scroll halfway down to see the recipe.)

Craft Together!

Using leftover pumpkin seeds, your child can make a pumpkin seed collage. Feel free to use any other fall-based items, too. Indeed, much fall fun can be had two-times over. Your preschooler can enjoy the pumpkin and play with or eat the insides afterwards!
