Out-of-the-Box Gift Ideas to Give Your Preschooler

Out-of-the-Box Gift Ideas to Give Your Preschooler at Kids 'R' Kids Oakbrook, preschool, daycare, childcare

It is the season of gift giving. It can be difficult to think of gifts that will be meaningful to preschoolers without adding more things to your home. There are plenty of out-of-the-box gift ideas that can offer solutions to this gift-giving dilemma.

Mail

Who does not enjoy personally receiving mail? In today’s day and age when the majority of interactions are electronic, it is rare to receive handwritten letters. A special gift for your preschooler would be to receive monthly mail. This could be a letter or postcard from a variety of people throughout the year or from one individual.

Memberships

Memberships are another good gift idea. Perhaps you are near an aquarium, museum, theater, zoo, or other location that will provide a year’s worth of visits and entertainment for your preschooler. Memberships usually pay for themselves with the second visit.

Lessons

Lessons could be purchased as a gift. If your preschooler is showing interest in a particular skill, such as martial arts, gymnastics, music, or art, you could invest in lessons. See what is available in your area. Thankfully, there are many online lessons if you are unable to find locally what you desire. There are also subscriptions that can bring lessons to you, such as Radish Kids for cooking.

Parent/Child Dates

Consider using one-on-one outings as a gift. Think of some places that would be enjoyable for you and your preschooler, and throughout the next year, the two of you could purposely spend time together. It could be as easy as a bike ride around your neighborhood, going to the park, or having a date night. To help with one-on-one outings, you could purchase gift certificates to local restaurants.

Coupon Book

Hand in hand with one-on-one outings would be a homemade coupon booklet. The booklet would allow your preschooler to make the choices. The coupons could include being able to stay up an hour extra, having a movie night with his choice of movie, taking a bubble bath, or even having dessert after dinner.

Consider giving your preschooler the gift of experiences over possessions this year. You may find that by purchasing subscriptions, lessons, and memberships, you are able to be more intentional in how you spend your time with your preschooler. I am sure you both will love a year full of connecting!
