Activities to Banish Boredom for Preschoolers

Activities to Banish Boredom for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Oakbrook, preschool, daycare, childcare

“What do you mean you’re bored?”  This is likely what goes through your mind when you hear your preschooler exclaim, “I’m bored.”  Your preschooler may be having difficulty coming up with new ideas to entertain herself and needs a change of scenery.

Help in the Kitchen

Your preschooler surely looks up to you and wants to do everything you do.  Take some time to do some cooking with your preschooler.  Try to keep it to simple recipes that don’t involve a lot of activities they cannot perform on their own (i.e. cooking on the stove top).  Try making Rice Krispy Treats, No-Bake Cookies, or this yummy recipe for energy bars.  You will melt together ½  cup peanut butter, ¼ cup margarine, and 1 bag of miniature marshmallows in the microwave.  Next, add 2 ½ cups Cheerios, 1 ½ cups Rice Krispies, ½ cup raisins, ½ cup peanuts, and ½ cup chocolate chips to a large bowl.  Pour the melted mixture onto the cereal mixture and stir.  Spread into a 9×13 pan, cut into bars, and cool.  You can tweak this recipe to include your child’s favorites or use an alternative to peanut butter, if you have peanut allergies in the family.

Sidewalk Chalk

Spend some time drawing beautiful chalk drawings and writing motivational messages for friends and family on your driveway or sidewalk.  Taking a trip to Grandma’s to leave her a little driveway art may be a fun boredom buster and will surely brighten Grandma’s day.

Write a Letter

Help your preschooler write a letter or craft a card for a family member or friend they don’t get to see often.  Show them how to add the address and stamp to the envelope and make a trip to the post office.  This will surely beat some boredom and brighten someone else’s day!

Water Fight

Put on your swimsuits, grab your water guns, and head outside for an old fashion water fight!  Kids versus parents will surely entertain your little one (and you) for a while!

These activities will not only help your little one be less bored, but will provide some great bonding time with your preschooler.  That is a win-win situation and a wonderful way to make memories!
