Rainbow Fun for Preschoolers

Rainbow Fun for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Oakbrook, preschool, daycare, childcare

Spring is here, and with Spring comes thoughts of rainbows.  Preschoolers LOVE rainbows!    Rainbows are beautiful, have a special meaning, and can be used for various learning activities for your preschooler.

Rainbow Toast

Add some color to breakfast!  You can make edible paint by mixing milk and food coloring in rainbow colors.  Allow your preschooler to use a clean paint brush to paint a few slices of bread.  Be careful not to use too much paint, which could cause the bread to become soggy.  Pop the colorful bread into the toaster, add some butter, and enjoy!

Rainbow Playdough

Gather play dough in the colors of the rainbow.  Show your preschooler how to roll play dough into balls and then into snakes.  Once you have all colors rolled out, line them up to create a play dough rainbow. You can also put out colored cups and ask your preschooler to roll the dough into balls and sort by color.  Rolling play dough is a great fine motor activity!

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt

Begin by drawing a large rainbow on butcher paper or poster board.  Next, set out on a hunt throughout your house (or outside!) with your preschoolers for all the colors of the rainbow.  You can focus on one color at a time to help with color recognition.  Once your child has collected all the colors of the rainbow, he or she can line them up on the rainbow to create a rainbow of the items they collected.

Rainbow Counting

Supply your preschooler with rainbow colored candies.  You can sort them into cups for them, allow them to sort them into cups first, or leave them mixed together and let your preschooler pick out the correct colors.  You will also need a rainbow colored paper with ten circles across each colored strip and a game die.  Your little one will choose a color, roll the die, and count the candy pieces onto the appropriate color.  For additional fine motor work, add a pair of tweezers for picking up the candy.

Hopefully, you and your precious preschooler will enjoy these colorful and fun activities!
