Spring Break Family Staycation Ideas

Spring Break Family Staycation Ideas

Families with preschoolers can opt for a staycation for a variety of reasons: financial obligations, school and work schedules, or wanting vacation to be relaxing instead of stressful. We think you’ll love these unique staycation ideas!

Backyard Camping

Going on a family camping trip can mean a lot of packing and prep work for parents. Instead, go camping in the backyard! Set up a tent or two and build a fire in the fire pit. Make dinner over the fire and finish the meal with roasting s’mores. Play cards by lantern-light or tell stories around the fire. You can do anything you’d do while camping, just in your own backyard! No need to pack up everything, and you get to use the bathroom inside; that’s a win-win for everyone!

Geocaching

If you’ve never heard of geocaching, you have to check it out! It’s kind of like a treasure hunt people from all over have created. You have to locate the things people have hidden and you can even add things to the hiding spots. There are apps for your smartphone to help you locate the geocaches and your family will love exploring together.

Run a Race

There are tons of fun races you and your family can participate in! Some favorites that come to mind are a color run, where you are splashed with a different colored powder at every race checkpoint, or an obstacle course race, where you might have to crawl through mud or climb over a wall. Your children will look forward to race day for weeks and create lasting memories during training or the actual race!

If these ideas don’t seem like they’d work for your family, get creative! Some other ideas we love are attending sporting events, visiting museums, and hosting a movie marathon at home. Staycations can be just as fun as a vacation, but less expensive and less stressful!
