Safe Trick-or-Treating with Your Preschooler

trick or treat

You can’t say Halloween without trick-or-treating coming up with little ones! While trick-or-treating may not be your favorite thing anymore, it is a key part of Halloween and every child knows about it from a very early age. To make sure they have a safe trick-or-treating experience, keep reading for some tips!

A great way to stay safe while trick-or-treating is to go during the daylight. Odds are, your little one goes to sleep pretty early. Since that’s the case, it makes sense to make the trick-or-treating rounds a while before it’s their bedtime. By going during daylight hours, you’re increasing your chance of always being able to see your little one and not having them get lost in a crowd of kids.

Another way to keep safety first is to go trick-or-treating with a group of families that you know. Not only is it fun to have friends to go with, it also increases your child’s chance of safety because they will most likely be staying with their friends when they’re going door-to-door. You can start the evening off with an early dinner at one family’s house and then all head out into the neighborhood together to trick-or-treat.

While this idea may take some convincing, it’s a good one nonetheless. If you’re not dressing up, consider wearing a funny hat. You’ll blend in with everyone else in a costume and you’ll help your preschooler be able to find you in a crowd if you’re wearing something that stands out. This doesn’t have to be elaborate, just a little something to let your little one know how to find you.

Trick-or-treating doesn’t have to be overwhelming, it can be so fun! Stay safe this year by trying these tips!
