Activities for Preschoolers on Labor Day

preschoolers and Labor Day

Labor Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the hard-working men and women all around us with barbecues and poolside get-togethers! However you choose to celebrate this day of rest, teach your preschooler all about the meaning behind Labor Day this year.

Build a dress up station and play dress up for Labor Day! Suggest careers for your child to dress up as and then pretend to do the work. Include tools for particular jobs, like hammers and measuring tapes, computer keyboards, or stethoscopes and dress up as each worker to act out their job.

Put your preschoolers to work at home! Take advantage of the long weekend and pick out projects at home your preschooler can help with. Preparing the garden, pulling weeds, emptying the dishwasher or organizing a closet—let them help with the hard work at home!

Set up a lemonade stand in your neighborhood to cool off your neighbors! Help your preschoolers mix up the lemonade and sell it to passersby. Invite school friends to help with the work! Share your lemonade stand on social media and invite family and friends!

Have movie night and watch shows and movies with characters who work in service jobs like: Monsters Inc., Zootopia, The Incredibles, Lego Movie,Curious George, Paw Patrol, Wall-E, Wreck-It Ralph, Planes: Fire & Rescue. Talk to your preschoolers about the type of work each character does!

Make cookies or treats to deliver to your neighborhood sanitation workers, post man, local police station or fire station, and make thank you notes to deliver with the treats!

Have a rest day and stay in your jammies all day. Relax together with your family playing games and take a family walk to the park. Set up a special reading nook and add your kids’ favorite books to the pile.

Enjoy celebrating, or resting, this Labor Day with your preschooler!
