Spring Break Stay-cation Ideas For Your Family

Spring Break Stay-cation Ideas For Your Family at Kids 'R' Kids New Territory, preschool, daycare, childcare

It is almost time for Spring Break! This is a fun time for your preschooler, and it is a sign of longer daylight, with summer days following shortly behind. Just because it may look a little different this year does not mean that all hope for fun is lost! Here are some ideas for getting your preschooler to have fun and move around while doing STEM activities.

Obstacle Course

Have your preschooler help you create either an indoor or outdoor obstacle course. If you are doing it outdoors, you can use sidewalk chalk to help bring order or direction to your path. You can then use any miscellaneous items, such as buckets to throw balls into, pool noodles, cones, anything you want. You can also use sidewalk chalk to make simple road lines, and have your child drive on this road with a trike, scooter, etc.

Brick Play

You can use Duplo Legos or any plastic building blocks for this activity. Your preschooler can gear up in a bathing suit for an exciting building project in the bathtub. Your child can use the blocks to build on or under water and observe the results.

For another idea, also using plastic blocks, you will need:

  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar (or Lemon Juice)
  • Orange or red food coloring or watercolor drops
  • Bowl and a cup

First, use plastic blocks to help your child build a volcano (it does not have to be fancy). Then, have your child add baking soda to the inside of this volcano (include at least a couple spoonfuls). Add a couple drops of food coloring on top of the baking soda. Next, have a bowl prepared with vinegar or lemon juice. Your child can use a cup to pour the vinegar into the volcano. The chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar will cause this volcano to safely erupt. You can do the process several times by continuing to add the ingredients.

Your child can do STEM activities and have fun using these stay-cation ideas (just don’t tell your child that they were learning during break)!
