How to Choose Safe Gifts for Little Ones

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and fun. But if you have young children in your life, you need to be extra careful about the gifts you give them. That’s because many common toys and gifts for preschoolers can pose serious safety hazards. Here are some tips for choosing safe gifts for preschoolers:

Avoid toys with small parts.

Small parts can pose a serious choking hazard for young children. So, when you’re shopping for gifts, look for toys that are specifically designed for preschoolers and avoid those with small parts

Avoid toys with sharp edges.

Sharp edges can cut or scrape a child’s skin. So, it’s best to avoid giving gifts like toy knives, swords, or spears.

Avoid toys with strings or cords.

Strings and cords can also pose a serious choking hazard. So, it’s best to avoid giving gifts like jump ropes, toy phones, or remote-controlled cars.

Look for age-appropriate gifts.

When you’re shopping for gifts, be sure to look for those that are appropriate for the child’s age. That way, you can be sure the child will be able to play with the toy safely.

Check for recalls.

Before you give a child a toy, be sure to check for any recent recalls. You can do this by visiting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website at www.cpsc.gov

With these tips in mind, you can be sure to choose safe gifts for the preschoolers in your life this holiday season!
