Valentine’s Day is most widely known as a romantic holiday, but it’s also a special occasion for families to share their love for one another! As parents, we can make this holiday special for even the littlest members of our family with just a bit of effort and creativity. Here are a few ideas for Valentine’s Day Traditions to start this year with your preschooler.
Make Valentines
Help your preschooler create crafty cards for your other family members, or even their friends or classmates. Gather some supplies such as construction paper, markers, glue, and maybe glitter if you’re feeling brave! Not only is this a fun way to teach your preschooler how to show their love to the special people in their life, it’s also a great way to practice fine motor skills!
Create a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt
A scavenger hunt is very exciting to any child! Hide some hints around the house with each clue leading to the next. (For a preschooler, these hints can be as simple as a slip of paper with a drawing of the fridge, which leads to the fridge.) At the end, hide a little Valentine’s Day treat! Your preschooler is sure to feel like a pirate or adventurer solving their scavenger hunt! As your child grows, the scavenger hunt can grow in complexity.
Bake Valentine’s Day treats
Spend time with your preschooler in the kitchen by baking sweet Valentine’s Day treats together! Your preschooler can decorate their own heart-shaped sugar cookie or cupcake with pink or red icing and sprinkles. This is sure to be quality time they treasure spending with you every Valentine’s Day to come.
