Teaching Your Preschool Child About Gratitude

Teaching Your Preschool Child About Gratitude at Kids 'R' Kids Missouri City, preschool, daycare, childcare

Among the chaos of the holidays, it is incredibly common to bypass the ultimate importance of why we celebrate Thanksgiving, which in turn undermines your chance to teach your child one of the most important lessons in life. It is easy and natural to get caught up in stress, the hustle and bustle of the fall, and the general busyness of the holiday season.

However, the ways in which you, as a parent, can ensure that your preschooler truly understands and accepts Thanksgiving for its full and special purpose are even more natural.

The simplest way to describe the definition of Thanksgiving to anyone, especially a little, growing human, is that it is a day to celebrate the act of being thankful. This is surely easier said than done, but when teaching your child about gratitude, you will often be amazed at how simple the act of being thankful can be described and shown.

As adults we can often complicate many aspects of life, and in these situations it is crucial to appreciate and understand that your child at this moment in their life has a simpler outlook than you do. And that in itself is something to be grateful for, and that is exactly where you can begin.

In order to be able to express the full meaning of Thanksgiving as a parent to your preschooler, it is necessary to start simple, start small, and gradually grow bigger while putting these lessons into action.

Some examples of starting small can be allowing your child to tell you what they are grateful for or what they appreciate, beginning at home. Whether it be a pet, a brother or sister, or the bowl of sugary cereal they had in the morning, at this stage, anything counts. After starting small, grow bigger and move to things they like at school, at the park, or at any other frequently visited places. Be patient, understanding, and allow your child to be grateful for whatever their charismatic, wonderfully made, thankful heart desires, and most importantly show that you are thankful for them.
