Valentine’s Day Crafts with Preschoolers

Valentine’s Day Crafts with Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Missouri City, preschool, daycare, childcare, learning academy

With February upon us, Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it! A new holiday brings with it new ideas to entertain our preschoolers. Your children will enjoy these Valentine’s themed crafts using materials you already have on hand or can easily pick up at the grocery store!

Bird Feeders

These heart-shaped bird feeders are fun to make and practical! Mix together ¾ cup flour, ½ cup water, an envelope of gelatin, three tablespoons of corn syrup, and four cups of birdseed. With cooking spray, spray the inside of a heart-shaped cookie cutter and place it on a lined baking sheet. Pack in the birdseed mixture and use a straw to create a hole near the top. Remove the cookie cutter while you hold down the bird seed mixture; you might have to help your child with this step! Allow the bird feeders to dry overnight. Then, tie some string onto the bird feeders and hang in your yard! Your child will love looking out the window to watch the birds eat from the feeder.

Q-Tip Painting

Cut heart shapes out of construction paper for your child. Allow your children to paint the hearts using washable paint and q-tips. Cotton swabs are an inexpensive alternative to paintbrushes and allow your child to create dots, mix colors, and work on their fine motor skills. When your children are finished painting the hearts, hang them on the refrigerator or in their rooms for some Valentine’s decoration. If you have extras, have your child write a note on the back to a friend or teacher.

Silly Puppets

These easy-to-make puppets provide a craft for your preschooler that they can play with when they finish! Cut some small hearts out of a cereal box or other piece of thin cardboard. Glue the hearts, blank side up, onto popsicle sticks. Then, use whatever materials you have on hand to decorate. Some of our favorites are googly eyes, pom-poms, paint, and glitter glue!

These easy Valentine’s crafts will create lasting memories for you and your child, not to mention leaving your family feeling festive!
