Safe Trick-or-Treating with Your Preschooler

With little ones, Halloween is about one thing: trick-or-treating. Trick-or-treating can cause some parents to get a little anxious, but it doesn’t have to! This year, plan out how you want to trick-or-treat with your little one and stay safe using the below tips.

A great way to stay safe while trick-or-treating is to go during the daylight. Odds are, your little one goes to sleep pretty early. Since that’s the case, it make sense to make the trick-or-treating rounds a while before it’s their bedtime. By going during daylight hours, you’re increasing your chance of always being able to see your little one and not having them get lost in a crowd of kids.

Another way to keep safety first is to go trick-or-treating with a group of families that you know. Not only is it fun to have friends to go with, it also increases your child’s chance of safety because they will most likely be staying with their friends when they’re going door-to-door. You can start the evening off with an early dinner at one family’s house and then all head out into the neighborhood together to trick-or-treat.

Lastly, familiarity is key when trick-or-treating. If you live in a neighborhood that has lots of trick-or-treaters or you’re very familiar with another spot in your town that lots of kids go to, go to those places. Halloween night is not the time to go to an area you’ve never been to before. You wouldn’t want something to happen in a place where you’re unsure of your surroundings.

Make this Halloween the most fun – and safest – yet!
