As a preschooler grows older, their world starts to expand. Often questions are asked about the sun, moon, and stars. You can help your preschooler learn about outer space through some fun activities.
Painting Galaxies
Galaxies are filled with more stars than can be counted. Your preschooler might enjoy painting their own galaxy. Begin by having them paint a galaxy onto black construction paper using silver metallic or gray paint. Next, add a reasonable amount of Elmer’s glue over the dried paint. You don’t want too much or too little. Then cover the glue with glitter. The glitter represents all the stars within a galaxy.
Galaxy Water Bottle
If you would rather have your glitter contained, a galaxy water bottle might be a good option. Your preschooler can help you mix 1½ cups of water with black glitter glue. They then will need help to add enough of the mixture to fill a water bottle three fourths of the way full. Next, they can add as many star sequins and gold glitter as they desire. Finally, screw the lid on and test your galaxy. More glue can make it move slower, while more water can make it move faster; a few drops of clear hand soap can speed up the movement even more! Be sure to permanently seal the lid once you are satisfied with your consistency.
Create Craters
If your preschooler has been able to see that the moon has dents (craters), it would be fun to make craters with them. Place a few inches of sand into a cake pan or storage container. They could then drop marbles into the sand. When the marbles are carefully removed, craters should be left in their place.
Train Like an Astronaut
Astronauts need to be in excellent physical condition. You could build your preschooler a training course that will help them on their adventure. Using things around your yard and house, you can have your preschooler crawling, lifting, jumping, and balancing their way to being physically fit.
Outer space is a huge place full of amazing and wonderful sights. There are many different activities for you and your preschooler to use to explore outer space. Hopefully, these activities will send your preschooler over the moon!
