How did it happen so fast? Summer is almost over, school will begin soon, and fall is right around the corner. The carefree days of staying up late, having fun in the pool, and eating lots of ice cream are coming to an end. Before summer is completely gone, here are a few fun ways to say farewell to summer with your preschooler.
Have a Campout
Enjoy all the fun of a campout from the comfort of your home. Whether you invite a few friends over or just plan it as a family thing, you can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. You can set out tents or sleeping bags, roast marshmallows, and project a movie on a sheet outdoors. Or set it all up in your living room.
Have a “Yes Day!”
You may have read the book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal or seen the movie Yes Day! If you have not, a “yes day” is where you surprise your kids by saying “yes” to almost any request (within reason). Cake for breakfast? Yes! No chores for a day? Yes! Stay up past bedtime? Yes!
Have an Ice Cream Buffet
Invite some friends over and enjoy ice cream together while it is still warm outside. Bring out all the toppings, and let everyone satisfy their sweet tooth. Want to make it even more memorable? Have ice cream for dinner!
Have a Party
Throw a “Farewell to Summer” party. You may host a pool party, a backyard barbeque, or something indoors. Most people do not need an excuse to celebrate, but marking the end of summer with your neighbors, friends, and family is a fun way to say goodbye to lazy summer days.
Have a Water War
Summer is hot, and water games are one of the best ways to beat the heat. Plan a water balloon or water gun war. You may choose a sneak-attack on an unsuspecting loved one, a coordinated team effort, or a free-for-all. No matter how you play, a hot day and a container full of water balloons is sure to be a great way to end the summer.
