Rainbow Activities for Preschoolers

Rainbow Activities for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Medlock Bridge, preschool, daycare, childcare

April showers bring May flowers, but they also bring…RAINBOWS!  Spring is the perfect time to engage your preschooler in all sorts of fun rainbow themed activities.  Here are a few ideas you can try right now.

Make a prism

Many craft stores and dollar stores sell prisms that you can paint with your toddler.  When the paint is dry, hang it in a window that receives direct sunlight and watch the rainbows dance across the ceiling, floor, and walls with your child.

Sort the colors

Gather multiple colors of beads, buttons, feathers, or a mixture of small items.  Lay out one piece of construction paper for each color of the rainbow.  Have your preschooler put each object on the piece of paper that it matches.  After they finish, you can mix it up and let them do it again or draw a rainbow on a separate sheet of paper and help your preschooler glue items of each color to it to create a three-dimensional rainbow.

Eat the rainbow

Who knew rainbows could be delicious?!  One easy and fun way to make a rainbow is by using different kinds of fruits and berries.  It is a great way to identify colors and fruits and possibly eat something new.

Identify colors

Have a conversation with your toddler about things that come in different colors.  Point out that the sky is blue and ask them to identify something else that is blue.   For more advanced kids, you can discuss how some things come in more than one color, like apples.

Play a game

A familiar game that most toddlers love is “I Spy,” and it can be played anywhere.  How great that it already incorporates the colors into the game!  Go through and “spy” something from each color of the rainbow.

Eating, sorting, painting, playing a game, no matter what you choose, have a wonderful, colorful time with your child this spring!
