How To Teach Your Preschooler To Ride A Bike

Ride a Bike

Yay! The sun is finally shining, and your preschooler can finally let out their energy and play outside without freezing. Your kiddo is getting to that age where they can learn how to ride a bike. This is a big milestone for both you and your child, so here are some tips to ensure that your little one is the safest and coolest biker on the block!

The Grass is Greener and Softer on the Other Side

Grassy areas are your child’s best friend when they start learning how to ride a bike. You want to make sure that they will have a safe and soft place to land if they fall. Go to a big grassy open field that doesn’t have many trees, stumps, or any other obstacles that could possibly get in your child’s way. Your preschooler can put their fear to the test and start pedaling away without fear of falling.

Safety First

Make sure that your child has a helmet on at all times! It’s very, very important to protect their precious little heads from any injuries. Knee pads are also a must when first learning how to ride a bike. If your preschooler hasn’t ridden a bike of any kind, make sure that they have experience riding a bike with training wheels. This will give them a better feel of how to ride a bike.

Pedal Power

When you’re teaching your child how to ride a bike, it’s a good idea  to hold on to them as they pedal. They will be able to understand the basic technique of riding a bike. Riding a bike is truly a balancing act, so your kiddo will begin to learn how to balance on this foreign object. When your child starts to muster up the courage to take control, make sure you’re pushing behind them and then slowly release them.

Keep pedaling on!
