Preschooler-Friendly Chores

Preschooler-Friendly Chores

Getting chores done around the house is a daily necessity for functioning families and is something that is great to get your preschooler involved with early.  While teaching them responsibility and cleanliness, sharing chores also gives you, as parents, help around the house.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when involving your preschooler in house chores. Their age obviously limits the accessibility and safety of certain chores, however, with a little bit of intelligent creativity you can get more done around the house with the help of your little one!

One of the most important things to remember is to use their young age as an advantage!Kids will learn by simply doing, and by introducing them to their capabilities early will benefit you and them in the future.

Secondly, it is important to give praise.Positively encourage your child while the chore is in progress, as well as when it is done. Knowing that this action made you happy will encourage them to continue doing so.

And third, consistency is key. Establish some kind of chore chart, schedule, or cycle in your household and this will make everyone’s jobs easier to follow, including your preschooler’s. Help them be aware of their job and the fact that they are expected to get it done.

Still scratching your heads as to how to involve them around the house? Here are a few simple ideasto get you going:

  1. Put toys away
  2. Fill pet’s food bowl
  3. Make their bed
  4. Clear table
  5. Water flowers
  6. Bring in mail or newspaper
