Hot Days, Cool Treats for Preschoolers

Hot Days, Cool Treats for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Mableton, preschool, daycare, childcare

Summer is upon us with its beautiful colors, fresh air, and bright sunshine.  Because there is more sunlight, there is more time to head outdoors and work up a sweat.  This is the perfect recipe for a cool treat!  Below are three easy treats for you and your preschooler to make and enjoy together.

Ice cream in a Bag

This yummy treat only requires five ingredients- half and half, salt, ice, vanilla, and sugar.  You will also need 2 Ziploc bags (make sure they are good quality bags so that the salt does not get into the inner bag).  Pour one cup of half and half, 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract, and one tablespoon of sugar into a small Ziploc bag.  Seal it well making sure any excess air is removed.  Fill the large Ziploc bag about halfway with ice.  Add ¼ cup salt.  Place the small bag inside the larger bag and top off the larger bag with ice.  Seal the large bag.  Wearing oven mitts or gloves, shake the bags for six minutes.  Remove the small bag and rinse the outside completely, especially near the seal.  Mix it up, add toppings of choice, and enjoy!

Fruity Popsicles

You will need popsicle molds, popsicle sticks (if the molds do not already have some), water flavoring packets, bottled water, and fruit.  Add the water flavoring packet to a bottle of water and shake.  Place a few pieces of your frozen fruit in the popsicle molds.  Pour flavored water over it until full.  If you need to add popsicle sticks, do that.  Then, place in the freezer until solid.  When you are ready to eat them, rest the mold in some warm water in the sink for a minute or two before removing them. Yum!

Fruit Kebabs

This is the freshest and easiest yet!  Grab a variety of your favorite fresh summer fruits and berries.  Cut them into bite sized pieces.  Help your preschooler carefully build their own skewer of fresh cold fruit.  Sit in a comfortable place together and reap the benefits of your creations!
