Although television commercials and radio ads may want to tell us differently, the holiday season should be much more about making memories than buying gifts. Here are some options for gifts your preschooler will remember forever that won’t cost a dime!
Movie Fort
Build a fort with all of the available blankets and furniture, and snuggle up with your family with snacks and a favorite holiday movie! Bonus points if you have a laptop or a tablet you can watch movies on and take inside your fort instead of leaving a big opening to see the television!
Christmas Lights
Dress everyone in cozy pajamas and drive through a neighborhood, drinking hot cocoa in the car gazing at Christmas lights. There’s something magical about leaving the house in jammies! Look online ahead of time for the best local neighborhoods for looking at Christmas lights; most local newspapers will have a guide for you.
Quality Time
More than any gift you could buy them, your child wants special quality time with you. Be intentional about spending one-on-one time with just you and your child doing something they really love, whether it’s reading stories or taking a walk outside. If you have multiple children, this will be even more special to you and your relationship with each child!
The Gift of Giving
One of the most important gifts we can teach our children is how to serve others, and there’s no better time than the holidays to teach this. Look into volunteer opportunities in your community at local food banks or libraries or shelters, and show your preschooler just how much we get when we give to others in need.
