September 21 – World Gratitude Day with Your Preschooler

world gratitude day

It’s never too early to teach your little one about being thankful. This year on World Gratitude Day, start incorporating thankfulness into your preschooler’s day-to-day life. There are many easy ways to do this – keep reading below for a few ideas!

Create a gratitude list! With your preschooler’s help, create a gratitude list on your phone. Every time you and your little one are in a waiting room, traveling in the car, or just needing something to do, you can pull out your phone and add things that you’re both thankful for to the list on your phone. These can be as simple and broad or specific as you’d like them to be. When your little one has a bit of an off day, you can read over the list and encourage them to be thankful for all the good things in their life.

Another easy way to practice gratitude is to go through the gratitude ABCs with your little one every so often! This is a great thing to do on long car rides. Start with the letter “A” and list something that you are thankful for that starts with an “A”. Then continue on with “B” and “C” and so forth. Participate alongside your preschooler and enjoy being thankful together.

Give gratitude to others! Showing others that you’re thankful for them is such an easy way to practice gratitude. Bake cookies with your little one and take them to your local police department or fire station or make care packages to take to a few of the doctors and nurses at your local hospital. There are always so many ways we can show others we appreciate them.

Gratefulness and thankfulness are great mood-boosters for your little one. Instill in them a habit of gratitude from an early age!
