Make or purchase story dice, which are dice with pictures or words on each side. When your child rolls the dice, they can use the images to create a short story. For example, if one die shows a tree and another shows a dog, your preschooler can make up a story about a dog who lives in a tree! This activity encourages creativity, vocabulary building, and sentence construction.

Use puppets to bring stories to life! You can make simple sock puppets or use small figurines to act out parts of a story. Let your child take the lead in performing the story, using the puppets to voice different characters. This playful approach builds language skills while sparking imagination.

Encourage your preschooler to retell familiar stories they’ve heard or read. Whether it’s a fairy tale, nursery rhyme, or bedtime story, prompting them to recall the details and retell it in their own words strengthens memory and comprehension.
