Creating Meaningful Friendships in Preschool

Creating Meaningful Friendships in Preschool at Kids 'R' Kids Landstar, preschool, daycare, childcare, learning academy

Your little ones are probably beginning to make friends with all of the other little ones in school, so here are four things that you can teach them to help them to be the best friends they can be:

Tell the truth. This is important in all relationships, and it is important to teach this to them as early as you can. Be honest even in the little stories that they tell their friends. Truth builds trust, and the sooner they can learn this, the better! Teach them to be truthful in every area of their lives.

Show gratitude. Teach them to be thankful instead of entitled. Gratitude is a wonderful character trait that will carry them through the toughest times of life. Practicing gratitude in their first friendships is a way to learn how to be thankful regardless of circumstances. Teach them how to say thank you, and to be kind even if they’re having a bad day.

Keep your promises. This is another thing that is best learned at an early age. Teach them to value the honor of their word, and encourage them to be trustworthy individuals. It may seem unimportant since they’re only in preschool, but this is the perfect learning ground for bigger things! It is easier to learn from a young age how to keep promises. As they continue to grow and make more friends, they will learn to make careful promises, and to follow through when they say that they will.

Take turns and share. You probably often hear “That’s not fair!” in the midst of an argument. This is because fairness is very important to children! Teach them to take turns and share because this shows them how to put others above themselves. Selfishness is never a good foundation for any relationship, so encourage them to love others!

These are just a few thoughts to help you decide how to help your little ones make their first friendships. Invest in these younger years because they will pay off in the future!
