Once you’ve decided that preschool is the best choice for your family, the next difficult decision becomes “but, which one?” Break down your decision-making process to make it easier to approach and less stressful with these tips.
Research
Visit their websites, make phone calls to the directors and ask about the curriculum and cost. All of these are important! But don’t hesitate to reach out to your community. Ask in any groups you’re in on social media, ask family and friends in your neighborhood, seek personal experiences with the school. This adds the human element to the facts you’ll see online.
Know Your Child
Knowing your child’s specific needs and methods of learning and socialization before you make your first visit or take your first tour. This will not only help you when you’re observing teacher/student relationships in the school, but you’ll be prepared with specific questions to ask regarding learning environments and teaching style.
Ask Questions
If you have a lot of questions, ask them. You’ll get a good idea of how parent-preschool communication will be just by observing the way the preschool answers and fully addresses your questions and concerns. It’s also a really good idea to ask how they will communicate with you going forward. Do they send emails or text messages? Is there an app they use to update you on your child’s day and experiences? Ask!
Most importantly, know that no decision is permanent. Trust your instincts and do what YOU know is best for your preschooler!
