Fun Family Activities for Cold Days Indoors

Fun Family Activities for Cold Days Indoors at Kids 'R' Kids Kings River

Snow is beautiful, but often causes us to remain indoors. When your family grows restless from the long, cold days and cabin fever begins to set in, try these fun activities. These can be enjoyed with just you and your preschooler or with your entire family.

Build a fort.

Grab the cushions from the couch and use them as walls to set up a fort. Pull a blanket over the top and drape it down the side to close in the fort. Use stuffed toys to set up around the fort. Have your child make up names for each one’s duty. Use the time inside the fort to read a book or watch a favorite family movie. Don’t forget the flashlight inside the fort and enjoy making funny shapes on the cloth walls of the fort. Forts are classic family fun.

Learn a dance routine.

Grab YouTube and look up the dance moves to the Macarena, The Electric Slide, or the Gangnam Style dance and learn it together with your child. After you have danced it out, have you child create their own dance and then teach it to you. Tell them they need three moves and give them some space to practice. Preschoolers are at an age where they can remember three steps in a row. Learning a dance and teaching it to you will help them practice their step by step memory.

Scavenger hunts are so much fun.

But you don’t have to plan it. Let your child help you think of clues and hiding places for an older child or your spouse to enjoy when they come home.

Cold Day Box.

Put several things in a box that you will only use on cold, inside days. When the day is too miserable to go outside, grab the box and dig in. Let your child choose a creative name for the box such as “the Winter Wonderbox”. Make sure you only use these items during the cold days so they are special and your child might begin to look forward to rain soaked cold days.
